The Percentage Of Americans That Believe In God Has Fallen To An All-Time Low 

 By Michael Snyder - July 2023 Do you believe in God?  If so, you belong to a portion of the population that is steadily shrinking.  Yes, a majority of Americans still think that God exists, but the trend is clearly going in one direction.  So are we headed down the same road that so many post-Christian nations in western Europe have already gone down?  According to a shocking new survey that Gallup has just released, the percentage of Americans that believe in God has plunged to the lowest level that they have ever recorded…

The percentages of Americans who believe in each of five religious entities — God, angels, heaven, hell and the devil — have edged downward by three to five percentage points since 2016. Still, majorities believe in each, ranging from a high of 74% believing in God to lows of 59% for hell and 58% for the devil. About two-thirds each believe in angels (69%) and heaven (67%).

74 percent may sound high, but it is important to note that this includes anyone that may believe that any sort of a “god” exists. So this figure would include people from many different religions. Overall, the percentage of Americans that believe in God has fallen by a whopping 16 points just since 2001…

Gallup has used this framework to measure belief in these spiritual entities five times since 2001, and the May 1-24, 2023, poll finds that each is at its lowest point. Compared with 2001, belief in God and heaven is down the most (16 points each), while belief in hell has fallen 12 points, and the devil and angels are down 10 points each.

Church attendance has been steadily declining over the years as well. In fact, a different Gallup survey discovered that church attendance is down by about 10 percentage points since 2012…

U.S. church attendance has shown a small but noticeable decline compared with what it was before the COVID-19 pandemic. In the four years before the pandemic, 2016 through 2019, an average of 34% of U.S. adults said they had attended church, synagogue, mosque or temple in the past seven days. From 2020 to the present, the average has been 30%, including a 31% reading in a May 1-24 survey. The recent church attendance levels are about 10 percentage points lower than what Gallup measured in 2012 and most prior years.

The American people are increasingly losing faith in organized religion, and it certainly doesn’t help that almost every day there is a story in the news about some member of the clergy that has committed some sort of horrible crime.  For example, just today I came across a story about an “executive pastor” that stole $130,000 from his own church…

A New Hampshire executive pastor has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for stealing around $130,000 from his church to pay off gambling debts and make purchases. Gregory Neal, of Barrington, 45, was sentenced in federal court Wednesday and ordered to pay back the Journey Baptist Church and the insurance company that covered a portion of the losses.

Sadly, many Americans are also losing faith in the traditional Christian values that this nation was founded upon. According to one recent poll, approximately two out of every five young adults in the U.S. believe that marriage is “an outdated tradition”…

Are there wedding bells in your future? If you’re young and in love, the answer is — probably not! A new survey finds that two in five young adults think marriage is an outdated tradition. Moreover, a staggering 85 percent don’t think you need to get married to have a fulfilling and committed relationship. Interestingly, the poll, commissioned by the Thriving Center Of Psychology, found that more women (52%) than men (41%) have this view of marriage. So much for saying yes to the dress!

Our society is not going to survive if we keep going down this path. Meanwhile, the numbers for those on the other side of the battle for our culture just keep improving. A very high percentage of our national leaders have graduated from Ivy League schools, and the demographics at those schools clearly demonstrate where America is heading. At Yale, 29 percent of the current study body identifies as LGBTQ+…

According to Yale Daily News, around 29% of its responding student body identified as something other than straight, as the school boasted that it “welcomed the largest and most diverse class in University history.” More specifically, 14% said they were bisexual, 6% gay/lesbian, 8% “questioning,” and 1% asexual.

At Harvard, that figure has risen to 21 percent and it is set to go even higher…

Over at Harvard, the 2023 class had about a 21% non-straight population, according to the Harvard Crimson. But the school is ready to outdo itself, as the class of 2025 will increase that number to 29%. That rate is a more than 18% increase from the class of 2017, which was represented by an 89.9% straight student body.

We are rapidly becoming the polar opposite of the society that our founders once established. If our country ever needed a “great awakening” it is now. Because the clock is definitely ticking. Many Americans live their lives as if there will never be any consequences, but the truth is that none of us know what day will be our last. In recent years, so many people that I deeply cared about have suddenly passed away. And it is just a matter of time before our entire society experiences a sudden shock that will literally change everything in a single moment. Earlier this week, I was alarmed to read that NASA did not even know about a large asteroid that almost hit our planet until it had already gone past us…

An asteroid called 2023 NT1 reached as close as around 62,000 miles from Earth – about a quarter the distance between Earth and the moon – on July 13. But it wasn’t until two days after its close approach that NASA scientists detected it, because it was coming from the direction of the sun and was obscured by light. 2023 NT1, which is now moving away from Earth at a speed of about 25,000 miles per hour, is up to 200 feet in diameter – bigger than the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Did you hear about this in the news? Most people did not. This particular asteroid was not big enough to kill millions of people, but scientists tell us that it is just a matter of time before such a giant space rock does come along. God's Spiritual Armor - Do You Put It On Daily?

Without Donning the Lord's Armor, Deception and Defeat Will Be Waiting at Your Door!

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11- Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12- For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13- Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14- Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15- and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16- In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17- and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18- praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication." -Eph 6:10-18 (ESV)

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]o we see what we as professing, believing, walking the walk Christians should be donning every day without fail. After all a soldier wouldn't go into battle without their weapons, bullets, flak vest, or helmet, would they?

As Paul spells out for the Ephesian churchgoers, these are things that they/we must put on each day to battle against the enemy of our soul - Satan and his hoards. And friends, these foes are tremendously formidable, strong, persistent and never rest from the attack. We are soldiers in the Army of the Lord and as such we had better be prepared each and every day for a battle -  a battle for your soul. But what does your spiritual armor look like? When Paul wrote this he was fully aware of the Roman soldiers and what they looked like in the physical, so he patterned our spiritual wear similar only ours is in the spiritual realm. Our battle is in the realm we can't see but nevertheless present.

"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4- For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;" -2 Cor 10:3-4 (KJV)

Most of today's Christians know little of this warfare that's going on all around them. Why? There's no battle in their lives. Why? Cause they are already dormant in their faith and do little for the Lord. They are comfortable with their "stuff" and many spend little to no time getting to know the Lord and telling others about their faith. Just going to church is easy-peasy - no threat there. But what about the real Christian who takes a stand for the Lord - in church and out of church? Some have faced much persecution and spiritual battles to try and take them out. And Satan's purpose for you is:

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.;" -2 Cor 10:10 (NASB)

[dropcap]B[/dropcap]ack again to our armor ... so what does your spiritual armor look like? Today's lethargic, complacent and compromising church, pastors and Christians spiritual armor most likely resembles the following:

• Helmet of Salvation = ball cap
• Breastplate of Righteousness = spring jacket
• Belt of Truth = cheap string
• Shoes of Readiness = shower tongs
• Shield of Faith = thin cardboard
• Sword of the Spirit (Word of God) = tiny pocket knife

  Yes, all these resemble what today's anemic Christian spiritual armor looks like and it's an embarrassment to the Lord. Instead of being a strong warrior in the Lord and a believing, walking in faith prayer soldier,  they have become deceived and weak if not defeated trusting in their stuff - their own securities - to carry them through - wealth, savings, 401k's, retirement nest eggs, jobs, positions, health, etc. How about you? Look in the spiritual mirror and examine for yourself where you stand as a battlefield spiritual prepared warrior. Do you retreat from taking a stand in the Lord - remember in the context verses above after strapping all our armor on, we must stand and pray.  And then after that - stand and pray, know the word of God and knowing and understanding Jesus His Only Begotten Son - our Lord and Savior. [dropcap]T[/dropcap]ime to take an assessment ... change course ... toss your ineffective, old, and rusty spiritual excuses for armor and strap on heavy-duty armor - God's armor! Amen!

Despise Not the Words of God Almighty!

How Will You Discern The Truth From the Lies?

"So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”" -John 8:31-32 (ESV)

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]preading across our cultures and societies is a thickening fog of deception, lies, untruths, and the twisting of truth. Evil is being proclaimed as good and good as evil, darkness as light and light as darkness - Isa 5:20. This deceptive fog is engulfing everyone from our leaders on down. Good moral values are being shredded into unidentifiable chards of refuse and Biblical standards clearly vaporized by political correctness. Friends, [Biblical] truth is being compromised, twisted, bent, and deformed to fit into the horrible contemporary framework of our ever-increasing Godless culture. Truth is vanishing and lies are proliferating. You see Satan as the father of lies has had thousands of years to perfect his art. Very seldom does he use a frontal attack but is highly accurate on flanking and rear incursions. For he knows men's hearts; he knows their soft spots left unprotected and vulnerable. He fires blitzes of wicked, fiery, deceptive darts right at the weakest part of our Biblically unfortified souls, the parts left defenseless from the truth and easy prey for his wily devices and schemes. 

So what do we do? How do we guard our hearts and minds against this assault of Biblical truth?

First we must know what our Bible says about these things. That means we need to dig in and study it. America is abundantly rich in Bible resources, other nations maybe not so much. So there will be no excuses for American Christians to fail to read God's Holy Writ. None, notta, zip!  Jesus said that we need to abide or continue in His word. And so by doing we will know His truth and these truths will set us free from the evil lies spreading like wildfire today. But wait ... there's another truth found here - in verse 43 He "slaps" the Jews hard when they argued with Him about sin and its enslavement, saying they could not bear to hear His word. Folks, that means they didn't hear the truth because they knew not His word and therefore they didn't know Him.

God is extremely clear, there is no mudding of the waters of truth when He speaks. He wants us to know Him without exception. There is to be no compromise, no putting Him on the back burner of our lives, no putting anyone individual/s or things ahead of Almighty God being daily on the throne of our lives. Jeremiah, a valiant prophet thousands of years ago by penning this truth from God Himself:

"Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: 24- But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.." -Jer 9:23-24 (KJV)

[dropcap]We[/dropcap] must abide in God. We must know Him. We must read His word as the utmost priority in our lives. We must know the rock solid truth of His word. For only then can we separate from the web of lies and deceit rapidly spreading over this world. The darkness is getting darker and men are loving it - John 3:19.  Now is the time to shred the cares of this world and take up the word of God like never before. I venture to say that if your beliefs in God are casual, if your faith is reckless and wishy-washy, believing what the world serves up more so than God's word, you are being deceived and a target from the Devil's fiery darts. You must get into His word and read it for understanding. 

"To whom shall I speak and give warning, That they may hear? Behold, their ears are closed And they cannot listen. Behold, the word of the Lord has become for them a rebuke; They take no delight in it.." -Jer 6:10 (NASB)

Take the authority and power we have as real born-again Christians, put on the full armor of God, with your feet shod (prepared) with the fullness of the Gospel and push back on the schemes of wickedness. On untruths. On lies. On wickedness. However, theres' a catch... In order to do these things you must be grounded and founded in God. You must seek His face and know Him.

You must spend quality time in His word.

There are no alternatives, and no excuses for a professing Christian. Listen to what John says about those who don't abide in Christ's teaching:

"Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son." -2 John 1:9 (NASB)

Friends, the time is now to get things right with God. Don't "play" Him like you perhaps play your neighbors or friends. Don't think you know better or are wiser (in your own eyes). Don't think that you are exempt because you attend church regularly, yet seldom read and mediate on His word. Don't think you know Him yet make tons of excuses of not praying or reading your Bible. The times are growing more and more evil, truth is being extinguished and these things will not get better as prophesied in God's word. Don't be fooled by the clueless pastors saying things are OK or those that conveniently refrain from teaching about what is coming. Read your Bible and know God, seek His face daily, read His word daily, pray without ceasing. Seek after His wisdom, understanding and knowledge like you are seeking for gold - Prov 2:4.

[dropcap]N[/dropcap]ow is the time, don't put it off. Know the truth and be set free. Abide in Him and continue in His word. In this you will have prepared your heart, mind and soul to discern the truth from the lies. Be prepared and be ye ready. Amen.

Are You Saved?

At the End of the Day, Where the Tire Hits the Road --- Are You Saved?

"But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear." -Isa 59:2 (KJV)

"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." 1 Jn 1:6 (KJV)

[dropcap]The[/dropcap] world we are living in is becoming more troublesome, violent and dangerous by the day. Wars and rumors of war, lawlessness, Godlessness, wickedness and evil seem to inhabit every nook and granny of our lives. Even the church is not exempt from this onslaught.

Without question there is a tremendous spiritual war going on for the souls of men. Chaos, confusion, madness are becoming the norm yet most Americans are oblivious to the nasty things happening around them. One can only wonder where all this going and what will be the end of things?

Folks, God's judgments are here and yet coming in mass. We can't continue to sweep this under the rug anymore. We must face it head on. So I will ask all of us ... are we saved? Do you know the Lord Jesus Christ? Have you professed Him as your Lord and Savior? Do you pray daily? Do you seek His face for wisdom, understanding and direction? Does He know you?

If you died today, would your final destination be heaven or hell?

Too many of our so-called Christian churches never teach on this because it's become a taboo subject. People can't seem to handle the negativity of such questions. In other words, friends, people have turned a deaf ear to the truths of God as told to us in His Word - the Holy Bible. Too many seldom if at all, read it, study it and embrace its wisdom. There are tons of "soft" Christians that have little to no faith and seek out churches for mainly the social aspect of their Christianity. So sad!

But back to the question ... if you died today, would your soul go to heaven or hell? This is a fundamental aspect of our faith and we must face it's truth. The question/topic of today's message is - Are you Saved? And if not, why not? The Scriptures tell us plainly to be saved we must - Rom 10:9-10 - to be born again.

"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." -John 3:3 (KJV)

This is how we get to heaven - the only way (Eph 2:8-9). There are absolutely no other ways but by Christ

"Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me." -John 14:6 (NASB)

Jesus is the only way to obtain eternal life - there are no other ways to come to the Father. NONE!

So, the ten-dollar question again to all of us - Are We Saved Today? Are you...? Will you seek the Lord's face today, and admit you are a sinner, then believe in Christ, profess His name as Lord and Savior, profess that He arose form the dead and He is Lord?

I highly encourage all of us to meet this question straight on and answer sincerely. Then pray, on your knees, if you can and proclaim Christ as Lord and Savior of your heart, mind and soul.

"Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord.  4- Seek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore."

And then remember ...

"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22- Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23- Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’:" -Matt 7:21-23 (NIV)
